My vow of silence lesson about conversation clutter

I’m on the last day of an 11 day vow of silence. One thing I’ve learned is that often, conversations with strangers can create unnecessary clutter. I’m a street performer and I busk on violin.  On the 4th day of my vow, a usual situation happened: I was between songs and a person came up to me and asked me a question. The question happened to be how long I’ve been playing my violin. My gut instinct said he cares less about how long I’ve played and he just wants to make mindless conversation. I eagerly pointed to my laminated sign that explained I was on a vow. I was never so happy to point to that sign.
