— A Brief History….

Xanga began before it’s time in 1998: in lieu of it’s key contemporaries like; friendster and, livejournal, as a social networking site for sharing books, movies and music reviews — leading it’s competition in social media as we know it today to sites like Facebook, Linkedin, Myspace and, Twitter.  Yet today, Xanga remains after a $60,560 community supported campaign.

At the beginning: users enjoyed editting and formatting content in fully customizable profiles with writing html and javascript plug–ins; private access to audioblogs, and blurbs also known as pulses — Members participated in blogrings, photo, video and weblogs…  contributing content to an active community sponsoring social commentary @ http://www.xanga.com

Before: algorithms, android, cms, e-mail marketing, filter bubbles, gps & geocaching; iPhone/ aps, iTunes, jumpstarts, kickstarts — mms, public internet profiles, qwerty keyboards, rss, sms, service as a software providers, search engines, search engine optimization services, social media networks and upstarts now online….  users remained anonymous and yet contributed content.

There were: bloggers and drivers, hackers and founders, friendster, livejournal, internet relay chats, private profiles, proxy servers like ogrefy and, xanga; Instead, thanks to our isp and ip addresses, now we have third–party api drivers sharing password protected access — filter bubbles limiting restrictive access to personally controlled content requesting private information…..

We had Xanga: xanga was a user powered platform, sponsoring community involvement, supporting open source blog rings, sir, rss, javascript, and html; users were enabled to make pages, sites for others, add eProps, or “likes,” comments on posts, create submissions, view footprints or rather, see site stats — in later editions members were allowed to upload audio, photo, and video.

Now we have Xanga 2.0. powered by WordPress.
